ARA Damage Locator

The damage locator created by the Automotive Recycler’s Association is a handy guide that informs used car part buyers about existing damage on a specific part. As you can see in the chart below, each car part is assigned a set of numbers. These numbers represent the different areas of the car part. The ARA Damage Locator is intuitive and helps the entire used parts body market, including daily drivers and insurance adjusters.

The way it works is simple. For instance, if you’re looking for a front grill, the ARA code may be 7R1. This means that there’s surface rust on the center of the grill and that it probably requires 1 hour of shop time to fix.

• 7 = area of car part
• R = type of damage
• 1 = estimated shop hours to fix affected area
